ENERGY STAR® for Homes Version 3

In order to certify homes for the ENERGY STAR New Homes program Raters are required to take this training. The training covers the requirements of ENERGY STAR for New Homes version 3 program.

Program Overview

This training covers the requirements of ENERGY STAR for New Homes version 3 program. Detailed presentations are given on ENERGY STAR v3 Thermal Enclosure Rater Checklist, HVAC Quality Installation Rater Checklist, and Water Management Builder Checklist


The course includes 6 modules.

  1. Program Requirements
  2. Thermal Enclosure System Rater Checklist
  3. HVAC Quality Installation Rater Checklist
  4. Water Management Builder Checklist
  5. Policy Changes and Clarifications (Optional Module for Information Purposes)
  6. ENERGY STAR National Exam

The first four modules include learning resources, social forums, and module quizzes. Each item with the module must be complete to progress in the course.

At the conclusion of the training, you will need to find an approved testing proctor and schedule a test with EnergyLogic. Then, you will be issued a certificate of completion with a passing grade of 80% or greater on the exam. EnergyLogic will maintain your records and notify ENERGY STAR of your successful completion.

Credits & Attendance

EnergyLogic will issue a certificate upon successful completion of the course and national exam. After issuing the certificate EnergyLogic will report results to EPA ENERGY STAR.

  • To familiarize Raters with the new requirements for ENERGY STAR version 3.
  • To prepare Raters to implement the new requirements in the Thermal Enclosure Rater System Checklist.
  • To prepare Raters to implement the new requirements for the HVAC Quality Installation checklist
  • To prepare Raters to implement the Water Management Builder Checklist
  • To prepare Raters for the ENERGY STAR version 3 national exam


Required Materials

Students are not required to purchase any textbooks or materials. Any necessary resources will be distributed in the course.
